Weed

Weed is a versatile plant that has a long history and is often a topic of controversy. It has been utilized in various industries and products, particularly in the medical field due to its many useful properties. While there is a lot of science behind understanding weed, it can be simplified by understanding that it is composed of more than 120 components, known as cannabinoids. The two most well-known and studied cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects associated with weed, while CBD is a non-intoxicating and non-euphoric component that is commonly used for medical purposes.

CBD has become increasingly popular and has led to the development of a new industry. Researchers are still working to understand its effectiveness in treating medical conditions, but there have already been many promising results. Here are seven ways that CBD has been proven to benefit health:

  • Lowering blood pressure: A study conducted by JCI Insight in 2017 found that CBD can lower the blood pressure of human participants. It reduced their resting blood pressure as well as their blood pressure after stress tests.
  • Reducing inflammation: CBD has been shown to help reduce inflammation and the neuropathic pain that it can cause, according to a study by the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research.
  • Preventing relapse in drug and alcohol addiction: A 2018 study discovered that CBD can be useful in helping people who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. A preclinical trial with lab rats found that CBD reduced stress-induced cravings, anxiety, and lack of impulse control that often cause people to relapse.
  • Treating anxiety disorders: Anxiety is a common affliction that people have used CBD for, and a preclinical study found that CBD could be effective in treating generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Treating gastrointestinal (GI) disorders: A recent study found that CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids can effectively be used to prevent and treat GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, and more. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties are key to reducing and preventing symptoms.
  • Preventing seizures: CBD has been studied extensively for its ability to treat epilepsy and other seizure syndromes. A recent study showed it can have positive effects in reducing symptoms and seizure frequency.
  • Fighting cancer: CBD has been used to help alleviate the effects of chemotherapy, and studies have found that it can prevent cell growth and induce cell death in cervical cancer cell lines. It has numerous anti-cancer effects that can help prevent a variety of cancers, treat tumors, and benefit the immune system.

There are even more benefits of CBD that are currently being researched and tested. While weed remains a controversial plant, its usefulness in various industries cannot be ignored. As research continues, it is likely that even more benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids will be discovered, leading to further advancements in the medical field and beyond.
